Perhaps you made a comforting call or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a card or dish of food; if so we saw it there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words any friend could say. Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts, we thank you so much.
Whatever the part, may God bless you.The Family
Poems
- A Spiritual Journey
-
Life is a spiritual journey from
the first day of our birth,
Life is a spiritual journey on this
beautiful planet called earth.
Life is a spiritual journey -
we're here to learn all we can,
Life is a spiritual journey -
a special gift from God to man.
- Love Lingers
-
Love lingers. Her perfume
I smell all around me. Her voice
I hear soothingly in my dreams
where she still lives. Her touch
awakens my skin and my soul.
Her smile is etched in my mind
where it warms my heart. Her pain
speaks to me of her courage, the
strength of her last days. Her
gentleness is reflected in those
who gave her care. She vanishes.
And I am overwhelmed with grief.
But her love lingers
and gives me strength.
- I Did Not Die
-
Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry.
I am not there. I did not die.
- If You Knew
-
If you knew where I am standing
If you could see the sights I see
If you could hear the angels singing
The songs they sing eternally
If you knew the One I'm holding
Could see the smile He smiles at me
If you knew where I am resting
You would not cry for me
I'm resting in the arms of Jesus
No other place would I rather be
So if you shed a tear
Please don't shed it for me
For if you knew where I am resting
You would not cry for me
- A Child's Grief
-
Lord you care so much
For the tears of a hurting child
Who has felt the grief of tragedy
Now no longer wears a smile
Unable to clearly express
How much he’s hurting inside
Not fully understanding the pain
Nor knowing the reasons ‘why’
He wants so much to reach out
To someone who will listen
Someone that can hold him close
And respond with godly wisdom
For he just needs a grown up
To know what he’s going through
But often we don’t realize his grief
Because we are hurting too
Let him know you care Lord
And will be there when we’re not
The emptiness he feels within
May be filled with you oh God
May he know you as a father
And know you’re by his side
To come and wipe his tears away
When alone he silently cries
Hold him in your arms Lord
So he will be at peace
Allow us all to give him time
In dealing with his grief
For tears may last all night
But joy comes in the morning
So let him grieve throughout the night
For a new day will be dawning.
- I Love You Mommy
-
Sorry I didn't get to stay.
To laugh and run and play.
To be there by your side.
I'm sorry that I had to die.
God sent me down to be with you,
to make your loving heart anew.
To help you look up and see
Both God and little me.
Mommy, I wish I could stay.
Just like I heard you pray.
But, all the angels did cry
when they told little me goodbye.
God didn't take me cause He's mad.
He didn't send me to make you sad.
But to give us both a chance to be
a love so precious .. don't you see?
Up here no trouble do I see
and the pretty angels sing to me.
The streets of gold is where I play
you'll come here too, mommy, someday.
Until the day you join me here,
I'll love you mommy, dear.
Each breeze you feel and see,
brings love and a kiss from me.
- Why Her and Why Not Me?
-
In the beauty of her youth
My wife was bold and full of truth.
Our lives together started strong
But soon we noticed something wrong.
A bottle slips from her right hand
We dance much less to our favorite band.
The morning headache that comes and goes
The loss of feeling in her toes.
One doctor says he has no guess
The next one says She has M.S.
Now I must watch my love so pure
wither from which there is no cure.
Our years are filled with joy and pain
A type of life one can’t explain.
Yet by her side I’ll always be
As she slowly dies in front of me.
With God as my witness I’d give up my life
If it would spare the pain of my sweet wife.
And when I die and God I see
I’ll ask, Why her and why not me?
- Support From Others
-
Don’t tell me that you understand.
Don’t tell me that you know.
Don’t tell me that I will survive,
How I will surely grow.
Don’t come at me with answers
That can only come from me.
Don’t tell me how my grief will pass,
That I will soon be free.
Accept me in my ups and downs.
I need someone to share.
Just hold my hand and let me cry
And say, “My friend, I care.” - No Person is Ever Truly Alone
-
No person is ever truly alone.
Those who live no more,
Whom we loved,
Echo still within our thoughts,
Our words, our hearts.
And what they did
And who they were
Becomes a part of all that we are,
Forever.
- Miss Me, But Let Me Go
-
When I come to the end of the road,
and the sun has set for me.
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little—but not too long,
and not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that was once shared.
Miss me, but let me go.For this is a journey we all must take, and each must go alone.
It’s all a part of the master’s plan, a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends we know.
Bear your sorrow in good deeds. Miss me, but let me go.
- Memory Can Tell Us Only What We Were
-
Memory can tell us only what we were,
In company with those we loved;
It cannot help us find out what each of us,
Alone, must now become.
Yet, no person is really alone;
Those who live no more still echo
Within our thoughts and words,
And what they did has become
Woven into what we are.
